You will feel like you are in a fairy tale in the chateau at Hluboká nad Vltavou. And how could you fail to. Many classic Czech fairy tales have been filmed here. A Gothic castle used to stand on the site of this monumental romantic chateau in the past. It became the seat of the aristocratic Schwarzenberg family in the 19th century, who converted it to the current style of English Windsor Gothic. Inside, you can admire the luxurious furnishings and unique wood carvings, whereas outside, you will be enthused by the English park with an area of 190ha.

After a tour of the chateau, visit the picturesque České Budějovice. This large city in South Bohemia was founded in 1265 by King Přemysl Otakar II and its medieval character is evident to this very day in the historical centre. The dominant feature is the extensive square named after the founder of the city, which is one of the most beautiful squares in the Czech Republic. It is lined with burgher houses with arcades and the spectacular Town Hall. In the middle, stands one of the largest Czech fountains – the Samson Fountain, with a sculptural group depicting the biblical hero, Samson, battling a lion. You cannot fail to miss the guard tower and bell tower in the centre, the so-called Black Tower standing 72m high, which offers a beautiful view over the city.

České Budějovice is also home to the world famous Budějovický Budvar Brewery, which continues the long tradition of brewing beer in České Budějovice, an activity that can be traced back to the 13th century. The brewery attracts visitors to take tours and learn more about its history via the multimedia exhibition and of course also to taste some of its products in the lager cellar itself.
