Several of Hungary’s delightful places of pilgrimage, such as the Pauline church in Márianosztra, the Basilica of Our Lady at Máriabesnyő, Makkosmária deep in the woods of Budakeszi, and the Budaörs Calvary that serves as the setting for moving Passion plays, are in the immediate vicinity of Budapest. The international footpath of the Way of Mary crosses the area.
The country’s only Serbian Orthodox church built in a Gothic style is in Ráckeve. The ruins of the Premonstratensian Basilica at Zsámbék bear witness to the glory of bygone times, but psalms are still sung every Sunday in the monumental church in Ócsa, dating back to the Arpadian age.
