The Villány-Siklós Wine Road in this ancient wine country was the first such to be developed in Hungary. It connects, through eight towns and villages, the 30km long vineyards spread out over 2,000ha. The wine culture of this region can be studied in the Wine Museum (8 Bem Street).
The October Red Wine festival, which is held once every two years, provides a great opportunity to purchase popular Villány wines like Blue Port, Merlot, Kékfrankos and Cabernet. This is the home of the Hungarian meadow saffron that flowers in January, of the ‘angry’ grass-snake and the snake-eating hawk. It is also worth visiting the open-air sculpture park where artists work on the spot. The collection includes some statues of the last 30 years.
