Sliač spa is situated between the towns of Banská Bystrica and Zvolen in Central Slovakia, and is famous for its ideal position, with an open setting, great climate and favorable sea-level altitude. In the past, when parts of Slovakia belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary, the spa was one of the most popular in sought after in the country. The reputation of the spa has been growing thanks to visits from important figures such as the Hungarian revolutionary Lajos Kossuth, the Czech lady-novelist Božena Němcová, the former Czechoslovak President T. G. Masaryk, the famous Russian politician N. Chruščov, and many others. Today the spa of Sliač is equipped with modern therapeutic facilities for patients with heart or vascular diseases, and those of the locomotion system.
