Southern Poland is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. The best known slopes are in Zakopane, the winter capital of Poland, situated at the foot of Tatra Mountains, and in Szczyrk, not far from Krakow, situated in the mountain chain of Beskid Slaski. A big number of enthusiasts always gather to observe ski races organized in the Polish mountains. A fun and unique winter activity here are kuligs – winter sleighing cavalcades. When taking place at night, torches are attached to the sleighs, creating a very romantic atmosphere. Dog sleigh races also take place in Poland, with some of them, for example the one in Zawoja, international events.
