As you may have noticed, "The Zookeeper' Wife" movie hit the screens in America this week. The film tells the tale of Warsaw zoo keepers, Jan and Antonina Zabinski, who bravely helped save hundreds of Jews during the German invasion and occupation of Poland in World War II.

Jan Zabinski was appointed director of the Warsaw ZOO in 1929. During his first ten years, before the World War II broke, the ZOO experienced substantial growth and development. The Zabinskis were a couple keen on arts and culture. They lived in a modern house at the ZOO ground, which quickly became a center of their social life. The house later gained the name, "The House Under a Wacky Star".

Close to three quarter of a century later, that house is still maintained in Warsaw. It brings back bittersweet memories, ranging from the horrors of the Nazi terror, to incredible courage displayed by the Zabinskis who endangered themselves to save hundreds of innocent lives. Today, The Zoo and "House Under a Wacky Star", are tourist destinations for Warsaw visitors as they provide an authentic and unforgettable experience for travelers.
