The most exciting gastro festivals to visit this year in Budapest
2016 is The Year of Gastro Adventures in Hungary, organised by Hungarian Tourism Ltd., and it will bring us a top event of the world of gastronomy, Bocuse d'Or Europe held in May in Budapest. Besides this renoved international chef contest, several other events & programmes await gastro fans throughout the city: check out our list!
Sirha, the worldwide event for the food service and hotel sectors continues it's international development with the first edition of Sirha Budapest. On this event more than 300 exhibitors from Hungary and abroad, including products which visitors will discover for the first time. Packed with a wide selection of events, the show will offer a platform for expression for all trades in the sector, and for gastronomy in particular thanks to the Bocuse d'Or Europe. Highlight of Sirha Budapest, this prestigious contest will feature the very best chefs from Europe and will reveal tomorrow's talents. Find the list of names participating Bocuse d'Or here.

Tamás Széll, chef of Michelin-star Onyx restaurant will represent Hungary at Bocuse d'Or Europe contest! He is the winner of the Hungarian final held on 18 February - no surprise, as he has already participated in Bocuse d'Or World Final in 2013, ranking straightway at the 10. place. Second is Ádám Pohner (Olimpia Restaurant) and third István Volenter (Sodexo). 
 
 
Representatives of the best Hungarian restaurants all in one place? A unique possiblity to try the delicacies of the best of Hungarian gastronomy, Gourmet Festival at Millenáris Budapest offers an exquisite culinary experience. We can meet Michelin-star restaurants as Borkonyha or Tanti, artisan cheese-, wine- and chocolate-makers, confectionaries and also gourmet food shops.
 
 
Sweet Days Chocolate And Sweets Festival September (date to be announced), Buda Castle
Biggest festival of sweets in Hungary is also an event recorded by the professionals throughout Europe. The sweetest weekend of the year is held at Buda Castle in the middle of September every year since 2011. Such professionals visit the event regularly as the founders of the London Chocolate Academy or owners and masters Swiss manufacturers.

More then 100 professionals have the possibility to present themselves and their creations, and also foreign chocolate delicacies can be tasted.  
  
Főzdefeszt and Street Food Show September (date to be announced)
Originally Főzdefeszt was organised to break the hegemony of uniform industrial beer, and it has come a long way. If you are interested in the selection of Hungarian breweries, you should not miss this festival, held at City Park near Heroe's Square! Besides a great selection of craft-beer you can choose from international brands too. And if you are hungry, the best street-food vendors provide delicious eats.     
 
Discover Hungary's meaty traditions in a unique setting: park of Hungarian Railway Museum! The event is dedicated to the traditions, presentation of suasage kneeding and pork procession can be witnessed, and in the meantime folklore programmes and concerts will entertain the public. Also a fair will be held, where gastronomic delicacies and craftsmen's products will be offered.
 
Budapest Pálinka and Sausage Festival October (date to be announced)
Sausage and pálinka fit great together, and if you want to add some extras to this combination, e.g. a wonderful panorama of Budapest from Buda Castle, then visit this festival in the autumn! Besides meeting makers of this absolutely Hungarian food and drink, we can enjoy entertaining programmes.

Chimney Cake Festival, October, date to be announced
An absolute classic, chimney cake is undoubtedly one of the most popular traditional sweets, loved by both tourists and locals. Made of yeast dough and dusted with sugar, walnut, cinnamon or chocolate, or many other flavours, this cake can be enjoyed thoroughly during this event, held next to pictoresque Vajdahunyad Castle at City Park of Budapest. Many other gastro delicacies and drinks will also be offered.
