Spring fiesta of culture: Budapest Spring Festival 2016
A real cultural fiesta of the spring season in the Hungarian capital, Budapest Spring Festival offers a great selection of events, from opera to theater, pop and jazz music to dance, fine art to world music. The event is an inseparabe part of Budapest tradition, as it is held the 36th time this year.
36th Budapest Spring Festival between 8-24 April 2016 is a real showcase of the different genres of art, and not only the selection of programmes, but also locations show a great variety. Besides well-known Hungarian artists, foreign stars will also perform at the series of events. 
 
 
Summary of Day 2 of Budapest Spring Festival 2016
 
It is almost impossible to chose from the great selection of programmes. The programmes are centered around main thematics – this year the ouvre of Ferenc Liszt and Béla Bartók will be highlighted. Ferenc Liszt is one of the most significant composers of international and Hungarian music history. His compositions, and also works of art inspired by his ouvre will be performed during the series of events. Béla Bartók was born 135 years ago, and many of the programmes will be dedicated to this anniversary. 
 
World-famous artists will visit the Hungarian capital. South-Korean conductor Myung-whun Chung, remembered in Budapest for his Mahler interpretations will conduct Milan's La Scala Orchestra, performing Mozart Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550 Mahler Symphony No. 5 in C sharp minor. 
 
The opening concert of Spring Festival Budapest will be dedicated for Liszt and Bartók; Budapest Festival Orchestra conducted by David Robertson and featuring Kim Kashkashian will be a true gem in the series of events.  
 
The Festival wil also have many Chinese links, for example, Turandot of Puccini will be performed by Chinese National Opera at Erkel Theater. We can also enjoy contemporary Chinese dance: the performance of Yabin Studio, The Moon Opera will be depicting extreme emotions. 
 
Carmina Burana, iconic music composition of the 20th century will be performed with a large company of virtuoso percussionoists, including Martin Grubinger, Austrian multi-percussionist, while performance of Mozart's Idomeneo features two international stars, Mexican Ramón Vargas and Russian Margarita Gritskova.

Locations include Müpa (Palace of Arts), Opera House, Zeneakadémia (Music Academy), Bálna, Pesti Vigadó, Budapest Music Center and theatres, cultural institutions and museums of the Hungarian capital. This year the series of events are organised in cooperation of Müpa, Budapest Festival and Tourism Center and Hungarian Tourism Ltd.
