National Táncház Festival and Fair, 1-3 April

The National Táncház Festival and Fair (Táncháztalálkozó), a colourful folklore festival includes performances by groups presenting their own local traditions, traditional folk artists and musicians, dance groups, professional and amatuer folk dancers, dance-house bands and dance workshops from all over the Carpathian Basin. A market of traditional crafts, publications and recordings, and concerts of traditional music will also be held.

National Táncház Fair

Budapest Spring Festival, 8-24 April

Budapest Spring Festival is traditionally held in April every year. This year the Festival pay tribute to Ferenc Liszt: not only Christus oratory will be preformed, but we can also enjoy artworks which were inspired by the master. Chinese culture will also be highlighted on this year's event. 

Besides these, as in 2016 we also celebrate 135th anniversary of the birth of Béla Bartók, Viola Concerto of Bartók, presented by David Robertson and Kim Kashkashian, will also be performed during of the Festival.

Budapest100: A celebration of the 100-years old buildings of Budapest, 16-17 April
Since 2011, 100-years old buildings of the Hungarian capital open their doors and thus celebrate their 100th birthday and also wonderful architectural heritage of the city. Visitors are guided by inhabitants of the houses, elderly ladies tell almost forgotten stories and the atmosphere is extremely cordial. From 2013 the event broadened with extra programs such as travelling by a nostalgic tram, discount taxi rides, and discovering the hidden treasures of Budapest with the help of a smart phone application.

This year will highlight the Grand Boulevard (Nagykörút) of Budapest, with 60 buildlings opening their doors. Registration is required, but the guided tours are free! They are mainly in Hungarian, but there will be some tours with English guidance. 

Budapest100 - Together for the Community

23rd International Book Festival Budapest, 21-14 April
Hungarians love to read, the number of books bought per capita is really high. So Internationa Book Festival is always a popular programme among the natives of Budapest, but also a renovned forum for the professionals of the book industry. Guest of honour will be Slovakia in 2016, and we can meet during the event almost 100 famous writers from 25 countries and almost 400 Hungarian writers. Also European First Novel Festival will be held for the 16th time within the frame of the Book Festival to introduce talented young authors from the members of the European Union: this event is a joint effort of 28 EU-member countries.

Gourmet Festival Budapest, 12-15 May
Selection of the best Hungarian restaurants all in one place? A unique possiblity to try the delicacies of the best of Hungarian gastronomy, Gourmet Festival at Millenáris Budapest offers an exquisite culinary experience. We can meet Michelin-star restaurants as Borkonyha or Tanti, artisan cheese-, wine- and chocolate-makers, confectionaries and also gourmet food shops. 2016 is a very important year in Hungarian gastronomy, as Bocouse d'Or Europe will be held in May in Budapest!  (And we shouldn't forget, that this year is also officialy The Year of Gastro Adventures, organised by Hungarian Tourism Ltd.!). Budapest Summer Festival, 1 June-30 August
Almost impossible to list the wide range of programmes offered by this Festival! Opening concerts by the Hungarian National Phliharmonic Orchestra, Stacey Kent Jazz Concert, Virtuosi Celebration, opera concerts – just some of the highlights. Open-air theater of Városmajor and Margaret Island (the latter around the recently renovated spectacular Water Tower) will host the events, and you can join these programmes with a pleasant dinner or maybe a boat trip to Margaret Island.
