On Saturday, 28 October 2017, you can celebrate the creation of independent Czechoslovakia all over the Czech Republic – visit the residence of the Prague Mayor, or the villa where the Czech Prime Minister lives.

99 Years: Celebrate the Creation of Independent Czechoslovakia It is about 11 a.m., Monday, 28 October 1918, and a discreet, ordinary man is walking through the crowd of a thousand people on St. Wenceslas Square in Prague towards to the statue of St. Wenceslas. He climbs up the statue and delivers a speech starting with the words: “We are free.” The man was Bohdan Zahradník, a Catholic priest, and this act of his is considered to have been the declaration of the independent Czechoslovak state. And that is what the Czech Republic commemorates every year on the 28th of October. Enjoy the celebrations in various cities, or get a discount, or even free admission to some of the sights, and even the villa where the Czech Prime Minister lives.
